it's no big deal
for many women, the idea of shaving “down there” can be a bit daunting. after all, it's in a part of the body with limited visual access and lots of curves. but don't worry – hair removal on your vulva doesn't have to be intimidating. with the right supplies and simple steps, you can get a silky smooth result at home. so say goodbye to costly, uncomfortable bikini waxes forever and let’s get down to business.
1. gather your supplies.
you will need a razor with super-sharp blades,, shaving cream, gel, or balm and a clean towel.
2. trim your pubic hair.
use scissors or an electric trimmer to trim your pubic hair down to about an inch in length. this will make shaving easier and help prevent razor burn.
3. take a warm bath or shower.
this will help to soften the hair and make it easier to shave.
4. apply shaving cream, gel or balm.
apply a generous amount to the area you are shaving. be sure to use a product that is designed for sensitive skin, as the vulva certainly qualifies as a very sensitive area.
5. shave with the grain.
shave in the direction of hair growth first, taking care not to press too hard against the skin. the gentle glide of the hanni weighted, metal razor is ideal here since there’s less friction against your skin. be sure to rinse the razor frequently to avoid clogging it with hair.
6. rinse off the shaving cream or gel.
rinse the area with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel, unless of course you’re using the hanni shave pillow, in which case you won’t need to rinse and can rub in any excess to lock in moisture and soothe post-shave.
do i have to use shaving cream?
you definitely need shaving cream, gel or the no-mess hanni shave pillow to get a smooth and moisturized shave. This is not the place for shortcuts! to prep your skin, take a steamy shower to open up those pores. then, use warm water (not too hot!) while shaving.
what if I already did laser hair removal?
shaving with a weighted razor is a great compliment for those who may have already done laser hair removal treatments. while laser hair removal can have fabulous results, it is not uncommon to find stray hairs , so most people do still tend to shave, although much less frequently. with it’s “no pressure” technique, the hanni weighted razor is an easy and irritation-free part of maintaining your laser hair removal results.
one last piece of advice…
shaving our legs is pretty straight-forward. we’ve got long stretches of easy-to-reach skin and just a few tricky spots (we’re looking at you knees and ankles!) but when we’re de-fuzzing our sensitive pubic area it’s important to go slowly and work with purpose. when in doubt, refer back to this guide. with hanni, we’ve got all your smooth skin covered.
